The project supports Asian Development Bank to improve urban environment and public health in Mandalay city through improved access to sustainable urban services.
In order to support ADB activities in Mandalay area, Myanmar, Earth Observation (EO) data have been utilized to provide harmonized, synoptic and up-to-date view on urban structure, urban growth patterns and to support flood risk assessment and subsequent analyses. Three different services of variable thematic content, spatial extent and scale have been delivered in the scope of the project EOTAP (Earth Observation for a transforming Asia Pacific).

Mandalay is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. It is located north of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River with population of 1,250,000. Mandalay is the commercial, educational and health center of Upper Burma.
This project consist of 3 services to better understand the rapid development in Mandalay area and the influence of Irrawaddy River during floods.
Detailed land use / land cover maps as of 2002 and 2014/2015, as well as related change, transportation infrastructure and assets were extracted from very high resolution imagery over Mandalay city area.
Extent and spatial frequency of historic monsoon flood inundations on Irrawaddy river has been assessed in selected years from satellite imagery for agglomeration of the Mandalay city including Amarapura.
Service delivered land use / land cover maps as of 2000 and 2014 at regional level, as well as map of related changes.
